If English is not your first language, or even your second or third language, you may or may not find this assignment easy. Knowing how to write an essay in English can be difficult; especially if you have never spoken the English language before. But let’s just suppose you speak a bit of English and you are only reaching out because you need help perfecting it.
Knowing how to write an essay in English can be a key tool. It is assumed that if you learn how to write an essay in English, you will improve in your speaking and writing skills. Writing essays or dissertations in general can be difficult. That is why many people buy dissertations and use them as a guide to complete their own work.
If you are doing this for the first or maybe even the second time (like a dissertation needs a dissertation proposal); you too will need something that is quite similar. Your dissertation proposal will need to be approved and it is strongly advised that you get your “plan” for your English essay approved. Approval can be reassuring and helps you know if you are on the right track. According several internet sources, it is assumed that writing an essay in general should take about 30-40 minutes in length. But if you are not familiar with the language you are writing in, or you like to take your time with work as a whole, writing your essay may take double or even triple the time. So make sure you have the time. It is very important that you do not rush this assignments. If you choose to rush the assignment, I can guarantee that it will be an epic fail and your professor will assume that you do not know how to write an essay in English.
1. Make sure you have time (at least 30 minutes)
2. Select a topic (pick one that will be relatively simple, and which will loose very simple vocabulary)
3. Create a thesis (this is the central idea or point you are trying to either prove or disprove)
4. Outline your essay (create an introduction, body and conclusion)
It is important that you realize that the steps above are very general and can be applied to writing any essay. But when it comes to putting it into the English language, this is where a dictionary will come in handy. Now you can even use the internet to help you translate but understand that the online assistance is mostly literal translations of your text that may have been written in your mother tongue. So I would encourage you to not get caught up with the internet translations. Instead, find someone who is capable of helping you out.
What you should use:
1. A dictionary
2. Piece of paper
3. A thesaurus to vary your words
Make sure to take some time to share your essay with others who are more familiar with the language you are writing in. It is not an easy task. But, realize, if these expectations are being put on you in the first place, it is assumed you have acquired enough intelligence to complete the assignment. Your teachers could also just be testing you to see if about your competence. The best tool you could use is your dictionary and internet searches. If you type in “translate”, you can insert your entire text and it will be translated word for word in the desired language. But don’t forget, it is a literal translation and takes no emotion. This means that you will lose the essence of your essay in the translation and this will soon affect your essay because it lacks feeling.
